Be A Buddy! Give a Pack!
This school year, nearly 8,500 schoolchildren will take a Buddy Pack home with them every week. Buddy Packs are backpacks filled with kid-friendly, nonperishable food that kids in need take home to help them get through weekends or holidays when they don’t have access to school meals. The Food Bank and the elementary schools it partners with try to make the process as discreet as possible so children in need don’t stand out from the other children. This means The Food Bank cannot buy backpacks in bulk (unlike other products The Food Bank supplies) because all the backpacks would look the same, therefore identifying the children with Buddy Packs.
That’s how you and your friends can help! Join The Food Bank in collecting a wide variety of new or gently-used backpacks. The Food Bank’s goal is to collect 3,000 backpacks by October 1 to help with the addition of 2,000 new students to the program and to replace some of last year’s bags. So whatever you please, Dora or Sponge Bob, princess or superhero; “Be A Buddy” and give a back pack today!
