SNAP provides funds to help supplement grocery budgets so individuals and families can get more nutritious food.

What is snap?

SNAP stands for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. It’s sometimes referred to as food stamps. SNAP can give you benefits to buy food at grocery stores, convenience stores and superstores. This monthly benefit is loaded to an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card - like a debit card - and cannot be withdrawn as cash.

Where can I use SNAP dollars?

Grocery stores, convenience stores and superstores. You can even use SNAP at some farmer’s markets! Search for a complete list of SNAP retailers on the USDA website.

How do I spend SNAP dollars?

Your monthly benefit is loaded to an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card, which is similar to a debit card. It can be spent in many stores and cannot be withdrawn as cash

Am I eligible for SNAP?

SNAP eligibility takes many factors into consideration, including income, resources and other expenses - like rent, medical needs, child care and more. The Department of Social Services will determine your eligibility after your application is submitted.

How much does SNAP provide for groceries?

That depends on a number of factors, but Family Support Division notes the average monthly benefit per month in Missouri in 2024 was $196 per person and $397 per household.
