The Food bank market

Neighbor Advisory Council

What is The Neighbor Advisory Council?

Before The Food Bank Market ever opened its doors, the thoughts and opinions of our neighbors in the community were essential in informing this new location and its programs. As The Market has continued to grow, so has our need for neighbor voices to provide feedback and guide future changes.

Our Neighbor Advisory Council (NAC) provides a space for those who shop with us to help guide change at The Market and advocate for neighbors in our community. Members of the NAC meet regularly with staff to work through sticking points and create a tangible difference for neighbors. Those on the council are fairly compensated for the time they spend.

2025-2026 Accomplishments

The Neighbor Advisory Council drove many changes in its inaugural year, including:
reworking check in
Our NAC helped identify existing issues in our Check In system and how they affect the shopping experience. Now, those shopping at The Market experience less traffic throughout the store and can receive a more reliable estimated wait time.
Updating the share room
After concerns of equity arose in our Share Room, the NAC helped reform the space. Thanks to the input of our NAC, clear expectations and guidelines for the Share Room have been posted to help ensure fair distribution of these items.
adjusting the shopping floor
The NAC helped alleviate areas of congestion around The Market with several changes to the shopping floor layout. These adjustments have allowed for neighbors to better flow through the space, reducing frustration and making the shopping experience a little bit easier.
