PIPESTONE and Hy-Vee Stores in Columbia and Jefferson City are teaming up on a project called “Give a Helping Ham” that will donate pork to The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri.  PIPESTONE is a veterinary service and pig management company that works with independent pig farmers across the mid-west. The Food Bank serves 32 counties across central and northeast Missouri, feeding an average of 100,000 people every month, and protein is always in high demand.

“There are an astounding number of families in our community that are food insecure.  Give a Helping Ham is a simple way to get the central Missouri community involved in giving back and providing families with some nutritious protein that they may not otherwise have,” said Dr. Luke Minion, CEO of Pipestone.  Last year, the program donated over 82,000 pounds of pork across the mid-west.

The concept is pretty simple.  For every ham purchased at a Columbia or Jefferson City Hy-Vee location from Nov 14-24, PIPESTONE will donate pork loin, pound for pound! KRCG 13 joins the initiative as a media sponsor alongside additional sponsors: Feeding Missouri, Carson & Coil, and the Jefferson City Autoplex.

“We couldn’t be happier to have Hy-Vee and PIPESTONE teaming up on the Give a Helping Ham initiative,” said Lindsay Young Lopez, Executive Director of The Food Bank. “For those that enjoy a good ham on their table during the holidays, this is an easy and impactful way to help families in need in our community.”

Hy-Vee, Inc. is an employee-owned corporation operating more than 240 retail stores across eight Midwestern states with sales of $9.3 billion annually. Hy-Vee ranks among the top 25 supermarket chains and the top 50 private companies in the United States. About The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri

The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri is a regional disaster and hunger-relief network that acquires and distributes approximately 30 million pounds of food annually to partner agencies across a 32-county area. A member of Feeding America, The Food Bank is able to work with manufacturers, wholesalers, processors, growers, retailers and restaurants to secure donations and food at reduced costs. Because of these partnerships, we are able to turn every dollar into $21 worth of groceries.

The Food Bank works with more than 140 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other agencies to ensure food gets into the hands of those who need it most. We are the only food bank in the state to provide that food at no charge to other organizations.
