September is Hunger Action Month. For many in Missouri, a daily meal is a choice between food and other critical needs—like medicine, housing or transportation. Food shouldn’t be an impossible choice.

That’s why The Food Bank and our network of partner agencies are asking our friends for help.

You can make a difference by supporting Hunger Action throughout September. Your engagement makes a big difference for neighbors experiencing food insecurity!

Take action to end hunger!

Give locally! food drives in your backyard.

Regardless of where you live in The Food Bank’s 32-county service area, there is a hunger-relief agency near you—and they need your support. With food costs rising and need increasing, many agencies would happily accept donations so they can help more neighbors in need. Find a partner agency in your area and drop off non-perishable donations, or reach out to see how they could best use your help!

Learn & Teach

Learning about food insecurity and sharing information with your network is one of the best ways to celebrate Hunger Action Month. We encourage you to learn more by following The Food Bank on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and sharing content with your friends, family and followers. Other educational resources are below:

Give a gift

Every $25 donation helps The Food Bank provided at least 100 meals. Make a donation to general operations or to hunger-relief efforts in your community, or consider other gift opportunities:

  • Request your company match donations through a corporate matching gift program.

  • Start a Facebook fundraiser and challenge your followers.

  • Host a drive to provide much-needed support in your area.

  • Donate produce from your garden to your local hunger-relief agency to share fresh, nutritious food with neighbors.

share your time

Volunteer at The Food Bank individually to help us fulfill our mission of service, or bring your friends, family or colleagues for a fun shift! You can learn about volunteer opportunities or sign up to volunteer or register a group on our volunteer webpage.

Not in the Columbia area? You can make a difference right in your community by volunteering your time at one of our partner agencies across our 32-county service area.

Hunger action selfies

Motivate others to go above and beyond with #HungerAction selfies. Snag a picture of yourself or your group supporting Hunger Action Month (volunteering, wearing orange, etc.) and be sure to include the hashtag #HungerAction and tag @TheFoodBankMO so we can share across our channels.

Keep an eye out for orange spoons, too! They make great selfie props and they’re available at The Food Bank and Central Pantry.
