Take action to end hunger.

September is Hunger Action Month — the Feeding America network’s annual nationwide campaign designed to inspire people to raise awareness and take action for those facing hunger in our community. For many in Missouri, a daily meal is a choice between food and other critical needs—like medicine, housing or transportation. Food shouldn’t be an impossible choice.

That’s why The Food Bank is asking our friends for help. Individuals, businesses and organizations are encouraged to make a difference by supporting awareness and education efforts throughout September or on September 23 for Hunger Action Day. Below are a few ideas to spark your engagement. Your support can make a big difference for neighbors experiencing food insecurity!

  • Orange is the color of hunger relief, so we’re asking our friends and supporters to go orange - by wearing orange, turning building lights or city landmarks orange or featuring Hunger Action yard signs or flyers in highly-visible areas - as a reminder of the work ahead. Check out marketing materials to help you “orange out” your organization with our toolkit at the bottom of this webpage.

  • Visiting The Food Bank or Central Pantry is the best way to learn about local hunger-relief efforts and how they impact the community, and there’s no better time than September. Submit your request for your business or organization below and sign up to support Hunger Action Month with a shift in our Volunteer Room before or after your tour.

  • Sharing educational content on food security allows us to reach more neighbors in need - and more community members who can help. Use the toolkit materials at the bottom of this webpage to highlight Hunger Action Month and don’t forget to follow The Food Bank on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to boost the signal even further.

Toolkit Materials

Flyers

Print one or both of our flyers in-house and hang them in areas with high visibility or provide takeaway flyers in areas with high foot traffic.

These pieces can help remind our community of the impossible choices many of our food-insecure neighbors must make each and every day.

Yard Signs

Yard signs can be professionally printed and used to bring awareness to food insecurity and Hunger Action Month efforts.

Print signs on corrugated cardboard to make the message last all month long.

Need printing guidance? Reach out at news@sharefoodbringhope.org.

Social Media

Following The Food Bank on Facebook, Instagram and/or Twitter and sharing posts and stories can help us get the word out to more neighbors who need help as well as more neighbors who are able to provide help.

We encourage you to share Hunger Action Month messages from The Food Bank’s accounts on your social channels. You can also share or embed the Hunger Action Month video, to the right.

Hunger Action Selfies

Motivate others to go above and beyond with #HungerAction selfies. Snag a picture of yourself or your group supporting Hunger Action Month (volunteering, wearing orange, etc.) and be sure to include the hashtag #HungerAction and tag @TheFoodBankMO so we can share across our channels.

Keep an eye out for orange spoons, too! They make great selfie props and they’ll be available at The Food Bank and Central Pantry.
